Magnolia Panthers- 3 Games This Week

White Hall defeated Magnolia 7-0 in high school baseball action Friday at Panther Field. The Panthers have three games this week. Tuesday, they travel to Hope for a 4:30 start. SAU’s George Adams had the lowest first-round score in the history of the Great American Conference Golf Tournament. Adams shot a 5-under-par 67 Sunday in Hot Springs. He is the individual leader after the first round. SAU’s Helle (Hell’-uh) Leed carded a 5-over 77 Sunday. She is 3 strokes behind the women’s leader.

The SAU baseball and softball teams won their weekend conference series with East Central University. The Lady Muleriders swept their 4-game series in Magnolia. The Magnolia City Council meets at 5 o’clock today. They will hear the annual report from Magnolia Regional Medical Center. They’ll also discuss the Magnolia Code Book and business licenses, and the 2014 Audit. SAU Baseball & Softball Weekend Schedule

The SAU baseball and softball series this weekend have both been moved to Saturday/Sunday. The Lady Muleriders play doubleheaders against East Central University Saturday and Sunday in Magnolia. Magnolia Water Lines To Be Flushed

The Magnolia Water Utilities will start the annual distribution system flushing program, beginning Monday (April 25th.)  They say the purpose for this program is to remove sediments and buildup from the water mains.  They said it will also allow the Utility to test the operation of the fire hydrants.  They ask customers to keep your water

SAU Sports Banquet Honors

Southern Arkansas University held their All-Sports Banquet Wednesday. Some changes were made to this year’s athlete of the year awards; the winner is no longer required to be a senior, and the women’s award has a new name. The Auburn Smith Award for the male athlete of the year went to SAU quarterback Barrett Renner, a red-shirt freshman.

Magnolia Blossom Festival Early Bird Drawing Winner

The first event of the Magnolia Blossom Festival has taken place. The drawing was held Wednesday morning for the Early Bird Prize in steak ticket sales. Taylor & Despain Face Capital Murder & Other Charges

Prosecuting Attorney David Butler issued a news release Tuesday afternoon relating to the murder of Douglas Harwell near Taylor. The release states that Keaton Taylor and De’kota Despain have been arrested for the murder. Despain is being held at the Columbia County Detention Center. Muleriders and Panthers Rained Out

The Magnolia High School baseball and softball games, and the SAU baseball game are all rained out today. SAU was scheduled to play a non-conference game at Arkansas Tech; that game will not be made up. Magnolia was scheduled to play Camden Fairview at home today, those games will be rescheduled, but the date has not yet been determined.
