Keri Hamilton – MHS Teacher of the Year

Keri Hamilton was recently chosen as the 2019 Magnolia High School Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Hamilton is a 1999 graduate of Stamps High School. She graduated from Southern Arkansas University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She has been married to Jason Hamilton for eighteen years. They have two children, Connor, an 8th grader at Magnolia Junior High, and Jaci, a 5th grader at Central Elementary. She is an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Stamps, serving as the Vacation Bible School director, Christmas program director, and Women’s Bible Study leader. After graduating from SAU, Keri taught junior and senior English at Plain Dealing High School in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. In 2005, she joined the faculty of Magnolia High School to teach English. During her career at MHS, she has taught journalism, Pre-AP English, and sophomore and senior English classes. She also serves as a sponsor of the National Honor Society. Last year, Keri and her co-teacher, Vickie Jean, were selected by the Boundless Learning Co-Teaching Program as model high school classroom teachers. Keri serves as the chair of the Magnolia High School English Department. She is a 2018-2019 candidate for National Board Certification. Keri’s philosophy of education is to encourage, support, and prepare all her students to become productive members of society, whether college- or workforce-bound. Outside the classroom, Keri enjoys attending her children’s sporting events, spending time at the lake, camping, boating, and being outdoors.
