Municipal Election Filings Continue Through Aug. 17

The filing period for those seeking municipal office began July 27th. The Columbia County Clerk’s office reports no new filings today. Through Wednesday, a total of 17 candidates have filed for city offices in Columbia County.
 
In Magnolia (3): Steve Crowell has filed for re-election as Alderman in Ward 4- Position 2; Larry Talley has filed for re-election as Alderman in Ward 1- Position 2; Parnell Vann has filed for re-election as Mayor.
 
In Waldo (4): Alderman Kenneth Haupt has filed for Mayor; Jerry Smith has also filed for Mayor; Paula Jean Williams has filed for Alderman in Ward 1- Position 1; and LaWanda Gail Battle has filed for re-election as Alderman in Ward 3- Position 1.
 
In Taylor (8): the incumbent Mayor Charles Matlock has filed for re-election; Clifford Page is also running for Taylor Mayor; Samantha Vaughn is also a candidate for Mayor; Nora Corcoran has filed for Alderman in Ward 1- Position 1; Johnny Hayes has filed for Alderman in Ward 1-Position 2; William Paul Higgins has filed for Alderman in Ward 3- Position 1; Steven Glass has filed for re-election in Ward 2- Position 2; and Nancy Gordon is a candidate for Alderman in Ward 2- Position 1.
 
In Emerson (2): former Mayor Joe Mullins has filed to run again for Mayor; and Donna Bilbray has filed for re-election as an Alderman.
 
The filing period for municipal offices continues until noon on Friday, August 17th. If you are running for a City Position, your petitions must be turned in and verified before you can file for office. You can get more information in the County Clerk’s office.
