SAU’s Justice Reliford has been named the Great American Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. Reliford set a school record in the long jump with a winning mark of 19’4” at the Marc Randle Classic. She earned NCAA provisional status in the process. The jump ranks as the second-best in Division II this season. Reliford also played a key part of the Lady Muleriders’ successes on the track; she was third leg on the first-place 400-meter relay team. The SAU track teams will compete in the Louisiana Classics Friday and Saturday. The event is hosted by the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
The SAU softball team dropped two positions in this week’s NFCA Division II Coaches Poll. The Lady Muleriders had been ranked second in the nation the past three weeks. But, after a single loss in their four-game series against Southern Nazarene, they are ranked fourth this week. This is the fifth straight week that SAU has been ranked in the top five. The Lady Muleriders travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma for a conference series Friday and Saturday at Southwestern Oklahoma State.
