Magnolia and Arkansas High squared off in high school basketball action Tuesday night at Panther Arena.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Panthers took the early lead and never looked back. Magnolia led 18 to 5 after one quarter, 30 to 7 at the half, and 47 to 16 after three quarters. The mercy rule was in effect for the entire fourth quarter, and the Lady Panthers emerged with a 50 to 30 win. Kisi Young led Magnolia with 18 points. The Lady Panthers improved to 8 and 5 in conference games, 11 and 8 overall. The Lady Backs fell to 2 and 11, and 7 and 19.

In the boys’ game, Magnolia held a 36 to 35 lead with about 5 and a half minutes remaining in the game. But turnovers took their toll late and the Panthers were outscored 15 to 5 down the stretch. The Razorbacks ended up beating the Panthers 50 to 41. Top scorers for the Panthers were Nike Jones and Tyler Brown with 10 points apiece, and Trey Davis with 9. The Panthers fell to 6 and 7 in conference action, 9 and 9 for the season. The Razorbacks improved to 11 and 2, and 18 and 5.

The SAU basketball teams travel to Russellville Thursday to face Arkansas Tech. The women tip off at 5:30 and the men follow at about 7:30. Those games will also be broadcast live on Magnolia’s Country 99.1.

 

The SAU track teams compete Thursday at an indoor meet in Frisco, Texas.

 

SAU baseball has two games Friday at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The Muleriders face Washburn University at 11 a.m. and UAM at 2:00.

 

SAU softball has two games Saturday and two games Sunday in the North Texas Softball Bash in Grand Prairie, Texas.
