Southern Arkansas University held their All-Sports Banquet Wednesday. Some changes were made to this year’s athlete of the year awards; the winner is no longer required to be a senior, and the women’s award has a new name. The Auburn Smith Award for the male athlete of the year went to SAU quarterback Barrett Renner, a red-shirt freshman. The female athlete of the year award is now named for Dr. Margeret Downing; the winner was Rosa Bryant, a senior on the women’s basketball team.
The SAU Scholar Athlete Awards were also handed out Wednesday. John Miller was the male recipient; he was an offensive lineman in football. The female award went to Liz Hudgins, the softball centerfielder.
Awards were also handed out for the outstanding athlete in each sport at SAU.
