The Magnolia City Council Met Monday Evening.

The Magnolia City Council met Monday evening.
The council approved a resolution to condemn the Cedar Hill Apartments at 900 Jerry Street.
The City Council also passed an ordinance extending the closing time for businesses that sell alcohol by the drink from 1 to 2 a.m. As the ordinance was being considered, there was a discussion about Dosie’s being delinquent on city by-the-drink taxes. Ultimately, it was decided that the ordinance and delinquent taxes were two different issues, and the ordinance passed.
Alderman Jamie Waller gave a street committee report. And he requested authority from the council to advertise for bids to overlay 25 miles of city streets. There was discussion on which streets would receive repaving and the cost, and the council then approved advertising for bids.
The Magnolia City Council heard reports from the Advertising & Promotion Commission, the Magnolia Economic Development Corp., and the Boys & Girls Club. They also were congratulated by a representative of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission on completing the PREP program. Kevin Sexton said that places Magnolia in the top tier of Arkansas communities ready to meet with project managers about industrial recruitment.
Mayor Parnell Vann gave his annual State of the City address. He asked the council to consider a millage increase to fund development of an aquatic center and new baseball fields.
