Sports Update – Monday, February 19

The SAU baseball team was a 7-3 winner over Southeastern Oklahoma State Sunday night in Magnolia. It was the first game of their first 3-game conference series of the year. They’ll conclude the series with a doubleheader today. In Sunday’s game, Kenneth Tabor pitched 5 innings to pick up the win. Tanner Vaught pitched the final 4 innings and earned a save. Mark Fontenot (Fon-tuh-no) had a home run and 3 RBIs. Dakota Wright also homered.

 

The SAU softball team won 3 of their 4 games in the 6-State Classic in Emporia, Kansas. The Lady Muleriders won both of their games Saturday…11-3 over Pittsburg State and 6-3 over Missouri Southern State. Then they whipped Concordia University- St. Paul 10-1 in their first game Sunday, before falling 4-3 to Emporia State. SAU’s Brooke Goad had a home run in each of the four games. The Lady Muleriders are 9 and 1 for the season. They open conference play Friday and Saturday in Magnolia against East Central.

 

Both SAU basketball teams went down in defeat Saturday night at Harding University. The scores were 63-54 in the ladies’ game and 67-61 in the men’s. This is the final week of the regular season for SAU basketball. They play Tuesday at Monticello, Thursday at home against Henderson State, and Saturday at Ouachita Baptist University. Both SAU teams are trying to earn berths in the Great American Conference Tournament. You can hear all the games live on Magnolia’s Country 99.1.

 

Both Magnolia High School basketball teams play this week in the 5A South Conference Basketball Tournament at Hot Springs High School. The Panthers are seeded second and will play Hope at 8:30 tonight. You can hear that game live on Magnolia’s Country 99.1.

The Lady Panthers are seeded sixth and face De Queen in their first-round game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
