Sports Update- Monday

The Magnolia High School basketball teams split with Hope Friday night at Panther Arena.

In the girls’ game, Hope edged Magnolia 54-52. Shadiamond Love and De’Asia Walker were Magnolia’s top scorers with 14 points apiece. Shanti Humbert scored 10, and Kayleigh Sneed had 9 points. It was the first conference win for Hope; they are 1 and 13 in conference games, 2 and 15 overall. The Lady Panthers fell to 4 and 10, and 5 and 12.

In the boys’ game, the Panthers took control early and rolled to a 52-37 win. Tyler Brown led Magnolia with 13 points. Braylon Beasley had 12 points and Kadyn Roach scored 10. The Panthers improved to 9 and 5 in conference action, 14 and 5 for the season. The Bobcats fell to 2 and 12, and 6 and 15.

Magnolia closes out the regular season with games Tuesday at Lakeside and Thursday at El Dorado.

 

The SAU women’s basketball team whipped Northwestern Oklahoma State 84-64 Saturday in Magnolia. SAU’s Sue Key led all scorers with 24 points. Olivia McWilliams had 23 points, 6 assists and 10 steals. The Lady Muleriders improved to 7 and 10 in the Great American Conference, 8 and 15 overall. The Lady Rangers fell to 6 and 11, and 10 and 13.

In the men’s game, Northwestern Oklahoma State escaped with a 65-63 win over SAU. DeVante Brooks was SAU’s top scorer with 15 points. CJ Elkins added 12 points. The Muleriders fell to 8 and 9 in the GAC, 12 and 11 for the season. The Rangers are now 12 and 5, and 16 and 6.

The SAU basketball teams play at home Thursday against Arkansas Tech.

 

The SAU baseball team split a doubleheader Friday at home against Lindenwood University. Lindenwood had won the first game of the series Thursday by a 7-5 score. The Lions also won Friday’s first game 6-3. But the Muleriders were winners in the finale 7-3. In the win, Jacob Richardson, Mark Fontenot and James Trevanion had 2 hits each. Trevanion had a home run. Jacob Stroder was the winning pitcher. SAU baseball begins Great American Conference play Friday and Saturday, at home, against Southeastern Oklahoma State.

 

The SAU softball team won both of their games Friday in the North Texas Softball Bash in Mesquite, Texas. In their first game, the Lady Muleriders defeated Texas A&M- Kingsville 6-3. SAU’s Brooke Goad had a 3-run homer, and Brooke Ford-Nelson was the winning pitcher in relief. In the second game, the Lady Muleriders beat Texas- Permian Basin 9-1. Sarah Pitre led the SAU offense with 3 hits, including 2 home runs, and 4 RBIs. Brooke Goad, Jill Roye and Faith Otts also homered. Jenny Hittinger was the winning pitcher. The Lady Muleriders are 6 and 0 for the season. They were scheduled to play two more games Saturday in the North Texas Softball Bash, but those games were rained out. The Lady Muleriders play Friday and Saturday in the UAM 8-State Classic in Bentonville.
