Sports Update Friday- Basketball, Baseball & Softball

The Magnolia High School basketball teams play at home tonight against Hope. Before the varsity games, there will be seventh-grade scrimmages; the girls will start at 5 o’clock and the boys will follow. The varsity girls game between Magnolia and Hope tips off at 6:00, then the varsity boys. Both varsity games will be broadcast live on Magnolia’s Country 99.1, online at MagnoliaRadio.com, and on the Magnolia Radio app.

The SAU men’s basketball team defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State 85-80 Thursday night at SAU. The Muleriders struggled at the free throw line all night, but they hit their final seven attempts to secure the win. CJ Elkins led SAU with 23 points. Draylan Perkins scored 12. DeVante Brooks and Gabe Gilliam added 10 points each. Brooks also had 11 rebounds. The Muleriders improved to 8 and 8 in the Great American Conference, 12 and 10 overall. The Bulldogs fell to 1 and 15, and 3 and 19.

In the women’s game, the Lady Muleriders fell to the 10th-ranked Lady Bulldogs 79-72. The SAU ladies cut an 18-point deficit down to 4 late in the game, but Southwestern Oklahama State was able to hang on and get the win. Sue key led SAU with 27 points. Kimberly Crown and Olivia McWilliams added 12 and 10 points respectively. The Lady Muleriders dropped to 6 and 10 in the GAC, 7 and 15 for the season. The Lady Bulldogs are 16 and 0, and 21 and 1.

The SAU basketball teams play at home again Saturday against Northwestern Oklahoma State. The ladies tip off at 1:00, and the men follow at about 3:00. Both games will be broadcast live on Magnolia’s Country 99.1.

The SAU baseball team lost 7-5 Thursday in their home opener against Lindenwood University. The Muleriders committed 5 errors in the game and all the Lions’ runs were unearned. SAU had just 3 hits, all home runs. Jacob Richardson hit 2 homers and Dakota Wright had the other. The Mulerider baseball team is now 3 and 2 for the young season; Lindenwood is 2 and 2. The teams will play a doubleheader today, starting at noon at SAU.

The SAU softball team is playing today and tomorrow in the North Texas Softball Bash in Mesquite, Texas. The Lady Muleriders face Texas A&M- Kingsville at 11 a.m. today and Texas- Permian Basin at 1:30. They’ll have 2 more games Saturday.
