Tuesday night was a great night to be a Panther basketball fan. The Magnolia boys and girls were both winners at home against Hot Springs Lakeside.

The Lady Panthers trailed the Lady Rams by 9 points at the half, but they scored the first 12 points of the second half and they outscored Lakeside 22 to 5 in that third quarter. Magnolia went on to win 54 to 45. Kisi Young and Lily Moore were top scorers for Magnolia with 19 points apiece. The Lady Panthers improved to 10 and 5 in conference action, 13 and 8 overall. The Lady Rams fell to 11 and 4, and 18 and 7.

The boys’ game was never in doubt. The Panthers scored the first 21 points and emerged with a 64 to 29 win. Trey Davis and Greg Martin led Magnolia with 12 points apiece. Nike Jones added 11 points. The Panthers are now 7 and 8 in conference games, 10 and 10 for the season. The Rams dropped to 1 and 14, and 2 and 22.

Magnolia closes out the regular season Friday, at home, against El Dorado. The 5A South district tournament begins Monday at Watson Chapel High School. 5A South coaches will vote for seeding in that tournament tonight in Arkadelphia.
